Ability to Destroy Micro-Organisms

The Multi-Tech comes equipped with a germicidal UV lamp, which is a much better solution for neutralizing micro-organisms than what is offered by any Hunter air purifier.

Germicidal ultraviolet (UV) lamps are the most effective air purification technology at destroying micro-organisms, such as germs, viruses, fungi (such as mold) and bacteria.

UV lamps are recommended by the Centers of Disease Control (CDC) and have been used in hospitals for decades.

Superior Warranty

Hunter provides a 5-year limited warranty for its air purifiers, but it covers only the motor. All the other components are only covered with a 1-year warranty. The Multi-Tech comes with a full, 3-year warranty that covers all components.

Activated Carbon Filtration Comes Standard

This filter comes standard in the Multi-Tech air purifier and the more expensive Hunter QuietFlo^TM models. In the less expensive Hunter HEPATech® models, it is available for an added cost.

Without an activated carbon filter, the Hunter HEPATech® models will not be effective against chemicals, odors, gases or cigarette smoke, all weaknesses of HEPA filters. HEPA filters are great at removing dust, pollen, and other allergens from the air.

Ionizer Increases Performance of Air Filters - Without Side Effect

Both the "Multi-Tech" and Hunter HEPATech® models feature an ionizer to enhance performance. The Hunter QuietFlow^TM models do not come with an ionizer.

According to the Journal of Hygiene, the negative ion output from an ionizer increases the performance of HEPA and other air filters. Negative ions cause ultra-fine particles to magnetically attract to one another, resulting in larger particles which are more easily captured by filters.

According to Columbia University and other sources, negative ions are without side effect. Some ionizers also produce ozone as a byproduct, but the ionizer within the Multi-Tech produces virtually no ozone (ozone levels was minimal to the point that it could not be measured).

An Extra Layer of Filtration

Hunter air purifier models provide two layers of filtration, while the Multi-Tech offers three layers. In addition to the highly efficient HEPA filter and the activated carbon filter for chemicals, odors, etc., the Multi-Tech also offers an anti-bacterial pre-filter, lengthening the life of the other filters.

Odor Reduction

The Multi-Tech has a programmable sanitizer to address strong odors. The sanitizer can be turned completely off if not needed or desired. In addition, both the Multi-Tech and Hunter air purifiers have an activated carbon air filter, which is also effective at trapping odor-causing chemicals and bacteria.

More Affordable

The comparable Hunter QuietFlow^TM 400 costs $293 while the Hunter HEPATech® 251 costs $220. In a recent lab test, the Multi-Tech removed 99.5% of airborne particulate in a 128 cubic foot chamber (including 99% of the smallest range - 0.3 microns and smaller), designed to replicate the conditions in a typical room. This is more impressive than most removal rate percentages you see, since it measures the particles throughout an entire chamber outside the air purifier, and not just at the point where the air enters the air purifier, which is the common way of testing particle reduction.
