Six Proven Air-Cleaning Technologies:

True, Cleanable HEPA Filter for the most effective protection against dust & allergens, such as pollen, ragweed, mites and mold spores. The Multi-Tech 8500 uses a Professional-Grade HEPA filter, which is made with ultra-fibrous and ultra-absorbent HEPA material, which is more effective than the typical True HEPA filter. It collects more and maintains a high level of effectiveness for a longer period of time. HEPA filters are recommended by the Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Centers of Disease Control. (More Info)

Germicidal UV Lamp to destroy micro-organisms such as germs, viruses, bacteria and fungi (such as mold toxins). Recommended by the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and the Air Institute of Respiratory Education. Also disinfects the micro-organisms that are trapped in the HEPA filter, which is why the CDC recommends using a germicidal UV lamp and HEPA air filter together. (More Info)

Activated Carbon Filter for chemicals, gases odors and cigarette smoke. The most absorbent filter material known to man. Recommended by the Centers of Disease Control, the Dept. of Health and Human Services and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health. (More Info)

Ionizer which disperses negative ions to seek out and remove particles & bacteria from the air. Proven by government studies to be effective, and to enhance performance of filters. Found to be highly effective in multiple U.S. Dept. of Agriculture studies. (More Info)

Photocatalyst Oxidation Filter which effectively reduces chemicals, bacteria and odors. Found to be highly effective in tests commissioned by the U.S. Dept. of Energy. (More Info)

Cleanable Pre-Filter for larger particles, prolonging the life and enhancing the performance of the other filters. Pre-filters are recommended by the Dept. of Homeland Security.

Other Important Benefits:

Low Replacement Costs. Even with 6 purification stages, the Multi-Tech 8500 replacement costs are quite low. The HEPA/Carbon combination filter will usually last about 12 months, and costs only $36 to replace. The long-lasting UV lamp will last about 3-and-a-half years before needing to be replaced, at a cost of only $19. The photocatalytic filter does not require replacement.

Large Coverage Area. Covers up to 500 square feet.

Strong Air Flow (135 Cubic Feet per Minute - cfm). Increases air filtration capacity by maximizing the number of air exchanges every hour.

Extremely Quiet Operation. Despite the power it packs, the fan runs smoothly and quietly. In "Auto" mode, it will automatically adjust to the quieter fan settings when the pollution level is low, producing the lowest amount of sound necessary.

Low Energy Usage, using a mere 55 watts of power (on the high setting).

I like the modern looks, not too big but work as a wonder. The coverage area is great. My office felt much cleaner, it also reduce the bad smell from my new furnitures. I hope this the machine can last long, but only time will tell.
Wish I'd bought this before the Multi-Tech XJ-3000C

If you are debating between the 8500 or the 3000C go with the 8500 which is much more quiet even on high than the 3000C is on low. I've been using Surround Air products since 2012andhaveboughttheMulti-Tech 2000,Multi-Tech S3000,Multi-Tech 3000C,andnowtheMulti-Tech 8500. All excellent at cleaning the air and noise level(s) with the exception of the 3000C. With a wood stove you cannot be w/o them.

I live in a Florida production home and the window screens are a really poor fit (large bowed gaps between screen frame and window frame). If I open any of my windows, I get a lot of bugs inside (and who knows what else). The builder replaced all and the replacements were no better then the originals. Can you read my mind? So, I opted for air purifiers to solve my dilemma. It's cheaper than new windows. I've tried a few brandsandtheSurroundAirMulti-Tech 8500 has been the one I've been looking for. IthasareplaceableTrueHEPA filter that that has worked magic. I love it and will be ordering more.
Compact and Quiet Air Purifier

By: Chad Allenbrand

This is a very compact and quiet air purifier with a sleek design. Even on the highest setting I can barely hear it running, this along with the size make this a perfect air purifier for our living room. The only recommendation I have is to not remove the sticker on the front, I did follow the directions and used somegoo gone to remove the sticky residue but this ended up discoloring the front panel. It looked better with the sticker on then afterwards. Other then that great little machine, thank you Surround Air.

Pollutant Types Removed by the Multi-Tech 8500 Air Purifier

 Pollutant Types Removed:

Type Rating Type Rating

Just some of the many types of pollutants removed by the Multi-Tech 8500:

Dust/Dust Mites. The Hepa air filter in the Multi-Tech 8500 is highly effective at capturing solid particles such as dust and dust mites. According to the Journal of Hygiene, ionizers help to increase the efficiency of filters by causing airborne particles to conglomerate, making them easier to capture in the filtration material. Plus, negative ions also cause airborne particles to precipitate out of the air you breathe, and have been found to be extremely effective at controlling dust without the presence of a filter, through studies conducted by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. UV light can be deadly for dust mites.

Bacteria. Much of the bacteria floating around in the air can be effectively captured by the Hepa air filter, while the germicidal UV lamp serves to disinfect the bacteria trapped by the Hepa filter. Plus, according to studies by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, negative ion-producing ionizers are extremely effective at reducing airborne bacteria. The Multi-Tech 8500 also includes a photocatalytic oxidation filter, a technology which has been proven to be effective at destroying bacteria.

Pollen and Other Allergens. Hepa air filters are the most commonly recommended filter for allergens, and are generally considered the most effective type against them. Negative ion-producing ionizers increase the efficiency of filters by causing airborne particles to conglomerate, making them easier to capture. Plus, negative ions also cause airborne particles to precipitate out of the air you breathe.

Mold/Fungi. Mold spores are effectively captured by Hepa air filters, especially with the help of negative ion-producing ionizers. UV light is deadly against the microbiological toxins associated with mold. The activated carbon filtration and photocatalytic oxidation technologies used by the Multi-Tech are effective against mildew smells often emitted by household mold.

Cigarette Smoke. The carbon air filter in the Multi-Tech absorbs smoke particles and the toxic chemicals associated with cigarette smoke. With the help of the photocatalytic oxidation filter, it also helps to reduce or eliminate odors from cigarette smoke. The negative ions also remove smoke particles from air.

Chemicals and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). The carbon air filter is very effective at absorbing chemicals and gases. Also, photocatalytic oxidation has been proven to be effective at breaking up chemical compounds. Furthermore, the ionizer also helps to neutralize chemical fumes.

Germs/Viruses. The UV light is deadly against micro-organisms such as germs and viruses, and highly effective at destroying them as they pass by the UV lamp. Negative ions have also been known to help to neutralize viruses.

Odors. Both the photocatalytic oxidation filter and activated carbon air filter are effective at eliminating or reducing strong odors.

Carbon Monoxide. A statistically significant decrease of CO values was found with an ionizer activated. This was discovered by researchers at Brompton Hospital in London, and published in European Respiratory Journal.
